Located in the heart of Texas, Annie's Cottage offers that small town feel and comfort that big hotel chains simply can't offer. How did Annie's Cottage come to be? As prison guards, we work in a highly stressful environment. As such, we saw a need to create an atmosphere so peaceful, so relaxing that it would just melt that stress away. Located at 409 South 7th Street in Kenedy, Texas, we are in the Horny Toad Capital of the World! For those not familiar with the horny toad, it is a horned lizard which is on the Federal Protected Species List. In the beginning, we took notice to the large number of horny toads on our property. We contacted the Horned Lizard Conservation Society (HLCS) thinking they might be interested. Not only were they interested, but they came down for visit. After seeing such a large number of Horned Lizards on our property and in the area, they couldn’t help to agree with us that Kenedy should be dubbed Horny Toad Capital of the World! And we are proud of it! In addition to having a protected species on their property, we have transformed this quaint little house into a peaceful getaway! Finding the old mixed in with the new, you will feel the charm the moment you walk through the door with Colonial arches adorned with hand-painted ivy. The stone fireplace will warm your heart in all seasons. Firewood is replaced with an array of candles during the summer time to set the mood for a romantic time any time. The bathroom features a whirlpool bath (we furnish the bubbles), his and her vanities, a makeup area and wall to wall mirrors. We offer 2 bedrooms. The Blue Room features a 14-foot vaulted ceiling with railed shelving at 9 foot. The room is decorated with Old World charm with indirect lighting that creates a wonderful ambiance. The featherbed will take you back to your childhood, reminding you of grandma's house. Watch TV in bed in total comfort with two ceiling fans providing a gentle breeze. The Green Room features an iron bed from a time when the pace of life was much slower. Relax in a rocking chair or simply read a book in the peaceful surroundings. You will find nature recycled into modern treasures as they decorate the room. You will find all the modern conveniences in the abundantly spacious kitchen. The dropped shelving is home to the many items picked up along Annie's journey through life. The bar top features a built in chess and checker board, and a tic-tac-toe board for good wholesome family fun. You will also find other assorted board games for your families pleasure. After check in should you decide to have a romantic dinner in, we have a grocer (HEB) just two blocks away. Let your culinary skills flow. In the morning the choice is yours. A continental breakfast for those on the go, or a refrigerator filled with all you'll need to create the Texas-sized breakfast of your choice. Other features include a washer/dryer, iron/board, and free HBO, Showtime, and Movie Channel. We saved the best for last! The “quiet” room features an indoor waterfall that is unique to say the least! The fog coming off the water weeps over the edge as you pass. Take your time in finding all the hidden creatures that make the waterfall their home. The three-dimensional wall will capture your imagination. The two rocking chairs will soothe your soul.
